MetaHuman (Unreal)

THURSDAYS 6:15 – 10:00pm

8/7/25 to 9/25/25

Created by Epic Games (Unreal Engine), MetaHuman has a user-friendly interface and advanced tools for artists to get quick and great-looking results.  MetaHuman’s expanding impact on the entertainment industry can be found in its quickly spreading use for animation, film, television and videogames for pre-production and production itself.

Because MetaHumans can be created very quickly, you won’t spend months developing characters.  MetaHumans can be exported to DCCs like Maya, Blender and ZBrush for further customization for real-time use in Unreal Engine.  Topics covered in this class are:

  • Basic to advanced instruction in the use of MetaHuman and techniques for assorted and varying types of projects
  • A deep dive into the user interface and access/use of existing MetaHuman’s library of characters to create your own characters – Work on a project, exploring MetaHuman’s more advanced capabilities for transforming and “remodeling” characters (faces, body types) for a unique look and feel
  • Basic to advanced work with the MetaHuman Rig and how it works for animation as well as use with captured animation files
  • Learn workflows that demonstrate how to make full clothing for a MetaHuman character and how to use more advanced techniques for clothing for costumes for MetaHuman characters using Marvelous Design

Duration: 8 weeks (30 hours)

Prerequisite: A basic knowledge of Unreal Engine and/or CG modeling programs such as Blender, Maya or ZBrush is highly recommended.  Unreal Engine requires that you have a 2020 or newer Mac or PC with 8 GB of VRAM and at least 16 GB of RAM. A large screen monitor (2 is best!) and the use of a full keyboard with a 3-button mouse is essential, especially for anyone using a laptop.
